Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy
Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Every year, thousands honor Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also known as Hershele Lisker, in Liska. Liska is home to over 500 Jewish heritage sites, from cemeteries to synagogues reflecting a long history. In the 1800s, about 3,000 Jews lived in Liska, forming a rich and vibrant community. Liska’s heritage resonates in neighboring communities such as Kerestir and throughout Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.
